WE ON 'THE THE WESTERNER STAFF ARE INTERESTED IN WHAT YOU'VE GOT TO SAY, AND WE NEED YOUR OPINIONS. Any outlet of expression is acceptable for your thoughts, such as letters to the editor, an amusing or socially significant cartoon, poems, or an open column where you may air your grievances or even applaud some group's accomplishments. You are probably eating lunch with your friends right now and discussing the different articles and pictures in this first issue. Instead of turning to a friend at your lunch table and reacting to him, SHARE YOUR IDEAS! If you have trouble thinking of an exciting topic, sign up sheets are posted in the journalism room and anyone can volunteer to cover a story. But if you don't want any restrictions on your column, think of and write about an |
idea that you can react to personally. Photography students are also encouraged to send in creative pictures One thing that the Westerner lacks is humorous stories or cartoons. If you do have a humorous incident happen to you or witness one, write it up as a feature for the paper. Human interest stories (stories dealing with emotions and that attract a wide range of readers) are' impossible to find unless humans are interested enough to relate it. It is also a very satisfying feeling to be able to enlarge on your own thoughts instead of always being influenced by others. All contributions submitted to the Westerner must be signed, but names will be withheld upon request. The staff is available every day ninth period in room R-210 for contributions or suggestions. |
