Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

I definitely did not think that the 1971-72 Sports Spectacular lived up to its grand name. There was very little advertisement circulated about the event and no incentive at all for the students to come. Last year the students were enticed with an afterdance and a chicken dinner. This year - nothing. The audience was mostly made up of bewildered parents who had come to watch their kids. It's great to have the parents come, but I think some enthusiasm should be stirred up among the students. I heard many different parents, including my own, who complained about the poorly organized program.

As you walked in the gate your dollar, or your $.50, was grabbed from you as there weren't any tickets. I understand that it is too early to expect a program because they weren't printed yet, but an announcer surely could have kept some of us awake by keeping up with the scrimmage plays and thanked the small group for coming. Most of the people didn't even know that the events were over. The only sound heard was the coaches who rambled off names, but didn't attempt to communicate with the crowd in any way.

The same people who planned this poor program and who did not generate any enthusiasm will be the same people who will later complain about the poorly attended games. Let's see if we can't encourage the students to attend rather than deter them.
