| Organizations Committee is working on the upcoming Student Council elections. Kathy McCann '72, chairman of the committee, and its members must organize the main elections for president, vice-president, secretary, the Upper House, and the Lower House, and committee chairmen. In order to run for the offices of president, vice-president, and secretary one must be a junior and have a 2.0 grade average. Two petitions were turned in for president, one for secretary, and none for vice-president. Sue Anderson '73 was the only one to turn in an petition for secretary and she automatically has the office. Mark Eichorn '73 and Cheryl Kuecker '73 turned in petitions for the presidency. After petitions are turned in all names must be checked and verified. If there is one illegitimate name the petition is disqualified. Two hundred signatures are required on each petition. Elections will be held the week of April 10-14. The Election Jitney will be at 3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria on April 14. |
The elections will be run dif-ferently this year. Instead of having polling booths set up in the front of the school, the vote will be taken in the homerooms, as with all other elections. It is felt that this is the most important election and it receives the least response from the student body. Many feel that people don't take the time to go down and vote, and others just don't care. There has been a controversy over whether or not seniors should be allowed to vote. Many feel that they would not take interest in the election and would consider it a joke. Others protest that seniors are members of the student body until the day they graduate. The committee has decided to let seniors vote. Upper House elections are being planned for Wednesday, April 19. Two people are elected to Upper House from each class. One hundred signatures are required on each petition. Some time at the beginning of the school year elections will be held within Student Council to elect two more Upper House representatives from each class. |
