Cindermen Move Outdoors, Hope for Better Second Half

On Friday, March 10, the Warriors traveled to Evanston for the Evanston Relays. Maine placed ninth out of the 12 teams entered. Evanston was the team winner, outdistancing their nearest rival by almost 50 points.

For the Warriors, Kevin Wright '72 grabbed a second in the mile run. Wayne Gyssler '72 picked up a third in the pole vault and a fourth in the high jump. Steve Suckow '72 finished fifth in the shotput, and the freshman sprint relay team consisting of Randy Van Vleck, Phil Logsdon, Mike Jannois, Bill Wadman finished fifth.

On Saturday the sophomores and freshmen traveled to Evanston for the North Shore Relays. Evanston was the victor, while the Warriors captured a sixth.

In the sophomore two mile, Brian Dunavant and Paul Frost placed fourth and fifth. Kevin Skahan placed second in the mile; Greg Klebe finished third in the 880-yard run. Joe Jobst placed fifth in the high hurdles; and the sprint relay team consisting of Steve Jacobson, Greg Gyssler, Jobst, and Mark Siska captured a fifth.

Evanston also won the freshman meet. Andre Decos placed fifth in the 880-yard run. John Whipple placed fifth in the low hurdles, and Joe Paul finished second in the mile. Phil Logsdon, Mike Janonis, Randy Van Vleck, and Bill Wadman
composed the four lap relay team which took a fifth. The mile relay team of Van Vleck, Logsdon, Decos, and Bill Loris also captured fifth. The freshman team finished eighth in the meet.

Monday, March 6, found the freshmen at the Maine South Invitational.

In the freshman two mile, Gary Brenner and Paul Made-mann finished fourth and fifth. Paul grabbed second in the mile. The 880-yard run found Decos finishing fourth. Dan Sikora and Whipple placed second and fifth in the low hurdles. Van Vleck captured a fourth in the high hurdles and a third in the 400-yard dash. Sikora finished fifth in the pole vault, and the mile relay team of Jannois, Rudy Martinez, Wadman, and Logsdon finished third.

On Saturday, March 18, Maine West traveled to Maine East for the Blue Demon Relays. The Warriors finished seventh out of the 12 teams entered. They totaled 181/2 points. Niles West was the meet winner.

Gyssler was the Warriors' standout with a first in the pole vault and a fifth in the high jump. Wright picked up a second in the mile for the Warriors. The frosh-soph distance medley team of Jacobsen, Scott Johnson '74, Greg Klebe '74, and Skahan placed third.

Van Vleck, Logsdon, Jannois, and Martinez comprised the freshman 4-lap relay which captured a fifth. The varsity 4-lap relay team of Scott Pischke '72, Bob Chapman '73, Larry Franzen '73, and Ed Devers '73 also placed fifth.
