Diamondmen Ready For Season Opener |
||||||||||
| The baseball season is just around the corner. The opening game for the varsity baseball Warriors is Saturday, April 1. The opponent is Oak Park, and the game will start at 11 am. The junior varsity also open their season the first against Oak Park. This will be an excellent opportunity to get a preview of the Warriors. The team will be able to polish up for the conference season. As a matter of fact the first four games will all be non-conference. The op-ponents will be Hersey, Prospect, and Evanston. By then the Warriors should be in full strength for the Central Suburban conference opener. That first game will be against the Niles West Indians on Monday, April 10, at home at 4:30 p.m. This is the last year the CSL will keep its present alignment so this is the last year the Warriors can win the league the way it is presently aligned. |
Of course, the ultimate goal is the state baseball championship. The last year the varsity won it all was in 1964. The man who will try to attain that goal for his team this season is Head Varsity Coach Al Carstens. His assistant is Mr. Don Olson. The sophomores also hope for a successful season under the leadership of Mr. Dan Carlson and Mr. Don Talbot. The freshmen will be coached by Mr. Wayne Ambrose and Mr. Phil Kardasz. Their opening games will be at Oak Park on Saturday, April 1, at 11 am. The varsity will play 18 games this season. Fourteen of them will be conference. The first Maine South game will be April 14 at Maine West at 4:30 p.m. Hopefully the Warriors will be in the state finals on June 1 and 2. |
