| Mr. Charles Dunn of the Maine West Social Science Department has been awarded a William Robertson Coe Fellowship to the Institute of American History at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. The fellowship consists of a $1,000 grant to cover the cost of an eight-week summer seminar program. Sixteen teachers were honored with fellowships. American history teachers from all over the country submitted applications. "The very fact that someone from Maine West received this award shows the high quality of the teaching at Maine West," commented Mr. Dunn. Participants will receive a minimum of six hours of graduate academic credit, as well as the opportunity to meet prominent historians on the Stanford staff. |
Orchesis, Maine West Dance Club, will present its annual spring show, "Every Picture Tells a Story," tonight and tomorrow night at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium. Tickets, which are $.75 for students and $1 for adults, are being sold by Orchesis members and will be available at the door. A Thousand Clowns has been selected as this year's all-school play. The three act comedy, by Herb Gardner, will be presented May 18, 19, and 20 in the auditorium. Science Awards Night will be held May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. The Science Department will honor students for academic excellence, research projects, and extracurricular laboratory assistance. There are also two other awards which will be given by independent agencies. The first, awarded by the American Cyanamid Company, includes a U.S. savings bond. Bausch & Lomb Inc. gives the second award, which includes a possible scholarship. In addition to the presentation of awards, the program will feature a short film of general interest and music by the Maine West Folk Sounds. |
