500 Students To Participate In Annual Music Festival |

| The annual Maine West Music Festival will be held tonight at 8 p.m. in the spectator gym. All members of the Maine West bands, orchestras, and choirs, numbering approximately 500, will participate in the concert which is the last of the school year. Highlighting the evening will be the finale which will feature a combination band, orchestra, and choral performance o f Ralph Vaugn-Williams' "Sine Nomine." Admission is $1 for adults and $.75 for students. The Des Plaines River will get a face-lifting of sorts tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as concerned citizens will band together to give it a much needed cleaning up. Those interested in helping should meet at the Methodist Campground parking lot. Registration for the Maine West summer school program is currently being held from 7:50 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. in the Personnel Office. Mr. Eldon Burk, coordinator of the program, urges interested students to register as soon as possible so they can be fitted into the program. Registration will end during the first week of June. |
Mr. Burk also stressed that the program is designed for the pursuit of special interests as well as for makeup credit. The six-week sessions will run from June 19 to July 28. Eighty-one sophomore girls have been chosen as next year's Junior Leaders. In this role the girls will prepare to assist physical education teachers their senior year. The girls were selected from 185 applicants who submitted various recommendations. Finals for seniors are scheduled for June 2, 5, 6, and 7. The regular class schedule will be in effect on these days. For juniors, sophomores, and freshmen finals will he on June 9, 12, and 13. Maine West's metal shop recently made a plaque, which they donated to the LRC. The plaque features George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and was in honor of Law Week. "On a Carousel," this year's Junior Prom, was held on Saturday, May 6. Refreshments were served in A-201. The auditorium was decorated with many mobiles and carousels. |
