| "A Thousand Clowns," Maine West's 1972 All-School Play, will be presented May 18, 19, and 20 in the school auditorium at 8 p.m. Tickets are being sold by Thespian members and in the bookstore for the price for $1.50. Larry Born '72 will be playing the part of Murray Burns, an unemployed uncle of a 13-year-old child, who up until now has been the child's guardian, but now is being questioned by the Child Welfare Board. Nick Burns, the 13-year-old child, who is under question, will be played by David Franks '74. The character of Nick Burns is very intelligent. It is also very hard to pull the wool over Nick's eyes because he can always detect falseness in somebody. He has a very peculiar favorite toy. Bob Scarola '72 will be playing the part of Leo Hermann, also known as Chipper the Chippermonkie. Leo has a very flexible personality. He can be flying high one minute and then can be at the very bottom of the barrel the next minute. He's very uneasy around people, and people are very uneasy around him. |
Sandra Markowitz, who is a timid social worker at the beginning, will be played by Kim Beedy '72. Sandra's personality changes throughout the play as she becomes closer and closer to Murray and Nick Burns. Bob Repta '73 will be playing the part of Arnold Burns, Murray's brother. Arnold is a well established businessman, but he's a fruit nut. He brings a basket of fruit over to Murray's apartment every morning and sometimes walks in and puts it on the table without saying even a word to Murray. The part of Albert Amundson will be played by Ben Adair '72. Albert is an experienced social worker who is assigned to the Burns' case. He and Sandra were engaged until they began to work on cases together. Then the situation changed when they got into an argument at the Burns' apartment and he walked out on her and left her standing there and crying right in front of Murray. The play is under the direction of Mr. Daryl Schultz, faculty supervisor. Sharon Gragg '72 is assisting Mr. Schultz as student director. |
