Cheerleaders Provide Equal Support to Teams |
||||||||||
| The varsity cheerleaders have expanded to include 14 girls for the 1972-'73 school year. This growth of the squad was brought about for two reasons: first the junior varsity cheerleaders had very few meets which they could attend; and second, the so-called "minor sports" have long been calling for equal time (and rightly so) from the cheerleaders. Now the 14 members of the varsity squad will split up to ensure that each sport gets equal encouragement: the first eight girls |
will attend the football and basketball games while the second six girls will go to all other home meets. In this way, all of the teams have gotten a "fair deal" and the cheerleaders, also. The cheerleaders can attempt to encourage students to patronize the Warriors' games and entertain and lead them in cheers once they get there, but they cannot get a crowd to actually come to a game. This effort will have to be an individual one on the part of you, the spectator. |
