Diamondmen Slip to 5-4 Record |
||||||||||
| The varsity opened their season by beating Prospect 13-0. Mark Ackerman '73 hit a first inning grand slam homer and pitched the shutout. The diamondmen season started late because of inclement weather, and recently many make-up games were necessary. Maine lost one conference game that was made up against New Trier West, 4-0, as they managed only two hits. Last week they also lost in conference to Glenbrook South, 6-0. But they won in conference against Deerfield, 6-0, last April 24. They won also against Oak Park, 3-0, in non-conference and captured another conference victory with a 4-0 shutout over Niles North. |
The diamondmen again lost in CSL play to Maine South last weekend, 4-2, after beating them earlier. This most recent loss puts their overall CSL record at only 5-4. Their record for all games is 7-4. In the Warrior's Central Suburban League opener on April 10 they lost a 2-1 decision to Niles West. Frank Mitchell '72 lost the game despite giving up only four hits. The diamondmen came back seven days later, though, in conference as they trounced Maine North 13-3. Bill Slapke '73, homered. Due to bad weather many games had to be made up, and two of those were conference. Glenbrook South was beaten 10-1 as South gave up 16 walks and four errors. They also trounced Maine South 9-1 scoring four unearned runs in the first inning. |
