Netmen Whip, Maine N., Elk G., Look Toward District Meet |

| At the tough Glenbrook South Invitational on May 6 the netmen put on an outstanding show. Included in the tough competition were Highland Park, Evanston, Niles North, and Glenbrook South. In the No. 1 singles Jack Semler '73 upset one of the conference's top players, 6-2 and 6-1. He lost in the quarter-finals by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Jim Lauffenberger '74 played well in the No. 2 singles but was defeated, 6-1 and 6-3, in the first round and, 6-1 and 6-0, in the second round. Steve Wild '73 and John Anderson '73 the No. 1 doubles team were 6-4 victors in the first round but fell 6-4 in the second round. Roger Junge '72 and Joe Thimm '73 were 6-4 and 6-3 winners in the first round but lost in the second round, 6-2 and 6-0. On Thursday, May 4, the Warriors lost to Glenbrook South, 4-1. The netmen blitzed Maine North 5-0 on May 2. Wild, Anderson, and Semler were victorious in the No, 1, 2, 3, singles and the combinations of Junge and Thimm and Doug Meister '73 and Lauffenburger were winners in the No. 1 and 2 doubles. |
The previous day the Warriors defeated Elk Grove, 3-2. Wild was a winner in the No. 1 singles and Anderson was victorious in the No. 2 singles. Lauffenburger and Meister accounted for the other point in the No. 2 doubles. On April 27 the Warriors were shutout by Deerfield, 5-0. Facing New Trier West on April 25 the netmen were again shut out by a score of 5-0. In the Maine West quadrangular meet on April 22 the Warriors defeated Niles East, 5-0, and West Aurora and Wheaton North, 4-1. Glenbrook North trounced Maine, 4-1, on April 20. Anderson was the only victor. On April 18 the Warriors lost, 4-1 to Niles North. Anderson was again the only victor as he captured the No. 2. singles. |
