| Question: Do you think students are given responsible freedom at Maine West? Barb Bridwell '73 - Some students are given more freedom than they can handle. Linda Costagli '73 - No, because the reason we can't have open campus is because they don't think we can handle it. There are a few that can't handle it, and they are ruining it for the rest of us. Jack Tookey '72 - No, because the teachers are held responsible for what we do. Diane Gatsis '72 - Yes, at least from my personal experiences in the speech and drama department, where my speech coaches and directors gave me the freedom to do what I felt was right, even if my directors disagreed with what I did or believed in. Debbie Cook '74 - No. Every idea we have has to be okayed by the administration and by the time it gets back to us we might as well forget it-all because the administrators think a few students couldn't handle it. Bob Scarola '72 - Yes, but there are certain disciplines which have to be upheld. Barb Todd '74 - No! Student Council is supposed to be the governing body but we have to get things approved by the faculty before we can do them. Jan Nelson '75 - No, you can't talk in study halls and you have to get a pass for everywhere you want to go. I think it would be a lot better if we got open campus because then we would feel like we accomplished something, and we would begin to feel a little more important and really a part of this school. |
