Trackmen Qualify For |

| Last Friday night, Maine West competed in the district track meet at Prospect. The Maine West team placed fourth out of 24 teams in the event. Wayne Gyssler '72 placed first in the pole vault with a height of 13' 6". Bill Klippert '75 did 14.6 on the high hurdles, 1 second faster than his best time. Kevin Wright '72 placed second in the mile with 4.126. Larry Franzen '73 placed second in the 100-yard dash with 10.3. Coach Ron Brown of the varsity track team feels that during the season the team could be stronger. One of the disad-vantages facing the Maine West team so far has been the lack of opportunity to practice in the weight program, which includes shot putting, discuss, and pole vault. "We have difficulty at Maine West, because we don't have facilities to |
practice indoors for the shot put, discus, and pole vault," explained Coach Brown. Also, since the weather has been unreliable, it has been difficult to practice in these areas outdoors. At times, however, Maine South has allowed the Warriors to use their facilities. Coach Brown, before the district meet, expected Bill Kllppert to do well in the high hurdles, Art Marz '74 to excel in the 100-yard event, and Larry Franzen '73 to do well in 220. Chip Barber is the team specialist in the 2-mile, Kevin Wright '72 in the mile, and Wayne Geisler in the pole vault. Larry Franzen, Ed Devers '73, Scot Pischke '72, and Bob Chapman '73 are the runners in the 880-yard relay run. Ironically, Coach Brown believes that this year's teams of underclassmen show more strength than the varsity at this stage of the season. |
