Student Recalls Past Years Looks Ahead to Future

By CATHIE HOFFSTEDT

Now comes the final push. Papers due, things to finish up, and of course finals. The end of another school year. Everyone, it seems, is thinking about summer. Planning what they're going to do. Worrying about getting a summer job or just thinking about sleeping late. For the seniors there's a feeling of sadness, mixed with a feeling of independence now that the end of their four years is here. For the rest of us summer means a vacation, hampered only by the thought of returning in the fall.

Right now it's so hard to keep my mind on school work, (and I am sure there are others who share my feelings) when thoughts of warm summer days keep popping up. After another long nine months of hard work (?) it will be nice (and necessary for mental health) to have some time off.

It's at this time in the school year everyone looks back and realizes it wasn't THAT bad.

You start remembering things that happened during the year. Remember that first day last fall? Trying to get up early after sleeping late for three months was the hardest thing I've ever done! Or how about trying to get your schedule changed (what kid wants four studies in a row?)
As in the past years, there was the usual jumble of activities. All the different dances, the sports events, and assemblies. And all the clubs, which sent out their yearly appeal for members. Then there's the constant mad rush to get to class just before the bell rings. And there's the person who claimed he could never make it to class on time, of course he never takes into consideration the fifteen people he stops to talk to on the way.

There's the painful memory of cramming for an important test the period before or remembering that you have a 20 page paper due that day which you forgot all about. One thing

I'll never forget is the nights I stayed up late doing my homework and cursing myself for not doing it earlier.

This year there were two important issues discussed, the referendum and open campus. (both of which failed).

Effects of the referendum not being passed are now being felt.

Enough looking back. How about forward. There are new times and experiences coming for all of us. No matter if you're leaving for good or just a couple months it's up to you to make next year worth remembering!
