| Dear Editor: Most often words like apathy, hate, and insecurity are used to describe today's young people. There is just talk, no action about love, a sincere unselfish extension of one's self out toward another. The only place I have found true love among young people is with the Christians who meet together in the morning. Just as a friend isn't a friend until you known them, love isn't love until you give it. We want to share this with you: If you'll take one step towards the Savior, my friend, You'll find the arms open wide. Receive Him, and all of your darkness will end Within your heart He'll abide. Time after time He has waited before, And now is waiting again, To see if you're willing to open the door 0' how He wants to come in. The Before School Bible Class Dear Editor: One of the problems that this school has is that the students are afraid to take stands on different subjects. They're afraid to stand up for their opinions. This is partly understandable because whenever they take a stand, others are ready to cut them down and judge them by what they say. Maybe when people begin to have a little more respect for what other people believe in, more students would be willing to express their feelings in a more open manner. Nobody likes to be made fun of. It's part of human nature. There are a lot of self-conscious people around this school who are unwilling to give their opinion because they are worried about others who might make fun of them. It's about time that people around this school start showing a little respect for others by letting them express their opinions without jumping all over them for saying what they believe. Then things might be able to be changed easier because people would give their ideas more freely. Peg Baer |
Dear Editor: The freshman B baseball team at Maine West High School has completed an undefeated season with a 13-0 record. The team exhibited good pitching, good hitting, and excellent team spirit. The captain of the team is John Jung. The Golden Bat award has been given to Frank Bartos; the Golden Glove award has been given to Todd Salerno; and Dan Hank has been named the most valuable player for the season. These awards were voted by the team members themselves. According to team coach Mr. Phil Kardasz, "It would be hard to pick out a star for the team. Every player contributed his share and helped make this a tremendous season." Name Withheld by Request Dear Editor: It didn't pass. When I first heard this about the referendum I didn't think much about it. At that time I didn't know much about what would be effected if the bill did not go through. Right now I can feel what the cutbacks are doing. This cutback affects classes a great deal. The size of the class will increase and for the student who needs individual help it will be extremely harmful. And some classes will be cut completely out of the curriculum. It's a shame that a student can't get a decent education without raising taxes but it's not possible. Was it really such an effort for parents? And what of the referendums in the future, what will we cut next? Cathie Hoffstedt |
