Top Seniors Get Department Awards at Honors Assmebly

At this morning's Honors Assembly 16 students were praised for their accomplishments in 13 departments.

Departmental awards are given to seniors by various departments on the basis of scholastic averages and all around school citizenship. Each department may give two awards if they desire to do so.

The students who receive such awards must have completed a minimum of three years' work in the department. Scholastic averages are then computed by averaging all the grades for the work taken in the department during the entire four years of high school.

No student is eligible to receive more than one departmental award.
Each of the 16 seniors received an award certificate presented by the chairman of the department honoring them.

The traditional method of choosing speakers for graduation, known as valedictorian and salutatorian, has been altered this year. Rather than just selecting the top two students academically in their class, the top one percent of the students will meet and select two speakers from this group.

This selection will take place immediately following the Honors Assembly; as a result of this, the Westerner was not able to obtain the names of the speakers in time for this edition.
