Gridmen Seek First Victory, Face Glenbrook N. Tonight

After a disappointing loss to Arlington 21-0, the Warriors were topped first by Maine South, 14-8, and then by Niles North, 21-20.

In the Maine South game the Warriors and the Hawks were unable to come up with a score in the first quarter. The second quarter Maine South went ahead 7-0, with a one-yard run by Bill Chubb. Nick Schalpak, a soccer-style kicker added the extra point.

In the third quarter McNamara ran 50 yards for the Hawks second touchdown, and Schlapak added the extra point to make it 14-0.

A fumble recovery by tackle Steve Suckow '72, midway through the third quarter gave the Warriors the ball on the Hawks 31-yard line.

A pass interference penalty and an eight-yard pass from Frank Mitchell '72 to Ron Siska '72 and a three-yard run by Ed Mueller '72 gave the Warriors their first touchdown of the eve-ning. The score stood at 14-6.

The last Maine West points came when the Hawks punted on their own one-yard line. The snap went out of the end zone, and the Warriors were given an automatic safety.
Going into Niles North with a 0-2 mark the Warriors were looking forward to their first win of the season only to be upset by a tough Viking team by a score of 21-20.

The Warriors first scoring chance came early in the first quarter only to have their touchclown called back on a penalty. Niles North then came back on the next series of plays. A nineyard pass to Ken Schirmer from brother Keith, and a Frank Kelly extra point made it 1-0.

The Warriors scored on a pass to Craig Zaleski '72 from Mitchell for 32 yards and a touchdown. The extra point failed, and West trailed 7-6 with 11 minutes remaining in the half.

Late in the second quarter, Zaleski caught a pass from Mitchell and went 41 yards for the touchdown.

The first time the Warriors got the ball in the second half, Mitchell connected to Zaleski for a 76-yard TD pass. Mitchell scored the two point conversion on a sweep play to make it 20-7. The last threat of the third quarter came with a fumble recovery by Mueller in the end zone for a touchback.

Everything went to the Vikings in the fourth quarter, after a high kick by Rick Wolfgram '72 put the ball at the Viking four-yard line. Schirmer then ran to the one-yard line before being stopped by Doug Dalbke '72.

One play later Schirmer went over for the touchdown to make it 21-20.
