Warrior Athletes Give Their Views

To mark the beginning of the 1971-72 fall sports season, Doug Dalbke '72, Jon Ferraiolo '72, and Dan Long '72 have these views on their sports.

Doug Dalbke, who plays end and defensive halfback for the football team, thinks the team will play better this year than last and that West will have a good season.

When asked why he chose football, Doug replied, "I don't know. I guess I like to knock people around sometimes." Doug wants to see West have a good season; he also hopes to see more spirit shown at the games.

Doug would like to go to Illinois State or Western Illinois University. He hopes to achieve a football scholarship this year.
Jon Ferraiolo feels the soccer team will have a "pretty good season," although he expects some trouble from the Maine North team which defeated West last year.

Jon originally went out for soccer because cross country had too much running and "I'm too small for football," he claims. This year at Maine Jon says he would like to achieve a goal or an assist. Jon wants to go to college although he is not sure of his career.

Dan Long has been on the cross country team for three years and feels the team will have a good season. He is looking forward to going downstate.

Dan thinks the turnouts for the varsity games have improved since the cheerleaders have promoted school spirit at the games. He hopes to be "number one on the team this year." Dan wants to go into the field of electronic engineering and continue sports after graduation.
