Cats Teach Pre-schoolers

"Three Little Kittens," taken from a popular nursery book, was the title of the play performed for pre-schoolers ages 3 to 4 1/2 on Thursday, October 21. The play started at 2:10 and continued until 2:30 p.m. in C-105 on that day.

"Three Little Kittens," which was orally interpreted by members of the Child Occupations class, was organized and then performed by Jan Rudy '72, Nancy Warren '72, Jeri Dohse '73, and Kim Hallen '73. The four girls decided to form a troupe which intends to perform once a week for the pre-schoolers. "Three Little Kittens" was the first play to be produced.

According to Jan, who wrote the script and performed as the mother cat, the plays give the youngsters a better understanding of motor skill development. Hand and eye coordination are developed as well.
Jeri, who took charge of make-up and performed as the girl cat, feels that through the plays the children learn to be more attentive as well as they acquire better communications.

Nancy, who was in charge of costumes and acted as the first boy, along with Kim, who took charge of props and performed as the second boy, believe that the youngsters are learning and enjoying themselves at the same time.

Through these plays all the girls hope to achieve variety while at the same time they are teaching the youngsters. They hope that the plays will broaden the interests of the children, so that when they reach kindergarten age they are already to settle down in school.

Miss Karen Morton was the sponsor for "Three Little Kittens" as well as the plays that the girls have planned for future times.
