The steps Mr. Norman Ladd went through when writing his book are on exhibit in the showcase in front of the library. The first thing he did was to write a pencil version. He then made changes and made a typed version.

Following this Mr. Ladd sent his book to "experts" (like Mr. Kelly) who made comments on his material. After this Mr. Ladd had the option of either accepting or rejecting the criticism. An editor at Scott Foresman and Company then made a typed edited version from the typed material containing the acceptable changes.
With this copy final changes were made. Galley proofs were made from this version and page proofs were made from the galley proofs. Both of these had to be proofread. The text followed the page proofs. The book was started in June 1968 and completed in July 1971.
