Warriors Lose Close Ones; More Offense Needed |

| After losing three soccer games to Maine South 1-0, Niles West 1-0, and Maine East 3-0, the Warriors were able to slip by Maine North 1-0. Maine South, who had not done well until late this season, was able to beat the Warriors 1-0 in a tough game at the stadium. Niles West, one of the five strongest teams in the state, was able to beat the Warriors by a score of 1-0, for the Warriors' sixth straight loss without a score. The Warriors finally got out of the losing rut by beating Maine North 1-0. The score came on a corner-kick by Cesare Bratta '73, that was headed in the goal by Max Hirsch '72, for the only score of the game. Fine goal-keeping was played by Fred Schmidt '72, who got the shutout. |
In the inter-eight tournament game which was played at Niles West, October 25, the Warriors played Niles West and lost 2-0. Coach Ronald Brown commented, "The offense is still young along with the team. This is only Maine West's second year of soccer. The defense is stronger; any young team is more likely to have a stronger defense The team will be working on a stronger offense by next season." Some of the outstanding seniors who played this year are Fred Schmidt, Max Hirsch, Jon Ferraiolo, Fred Campobasso, and Joe Hanley. Some outstanding returning juniors are Mark Hooczko, Tom Felz, Al Tuckey, Cesare Bratta, and back-up goalie, John Anderson. |
