Senior Class To Present |
||||||||||
| The drama, Flowers for Al-gernon, has been selected as this year's Senior Class presentation. The play is an adaptation by Daniel Keyes of David Roger's novel of the same title. Flowers for Algernon was also used as the basis for the 1968 screenplay, "Charley." The movie received wide critical acclaim. Tryouts are scheduled for November 29, 30, and December 1 in L-101 at 3:30 p.m. Scripts may be obtained in advance in L-104. Although seniors will receive preference, underclassmen are welcome to try out. There are 20 roles to be cast: 17 female and nine male parts. |
According to Mr. Ronald Mills drama teacher, who will direct the play, Flowers for Algernon was chosen because it has a particularly appropriate theme in that it deals with learning of all kinds. The play will be challenging both technically and to the actors." Mr. Mills added that a very versatile performer will be need-ed for the demanding role of Charlie. The play tells the story of a retarded young man who undergoes an operation which transforms him into a genius. When the effects of the operation are found to be short-lived, Charlie, equipped with his new mental power, engages in a futile struggle to prevent the retransformation from occurring. To Kill A Mockingbird was also considered as the play, but Mr. Mills decided against it because may black characters would be needed. He did not want to use white students in the rolls of the black characters. |
