| At the statewide convention of the Distributive Education Clubs of Illinois Scott Wagner '72 was elected vice-president. The convention was held in the Holiday Inn East in Springfield last month. Scott will now represent Illinois at the National Leadership Conference for the Distributive Education Clubs of America in Los Angeles. Twenty-five Maine West students represented the Music Department at Glenbrook South High School in the Illinois Music Educators Association District VII Music Festival. There were 750 other students in attendance. The students attended rehearsals for their respective musical areas, while the teachers attended several educational clinics. On Saturday, November 20, Tri-S held a simulation. This simulation lasted live periods instead of the usual four. A debriefing session was held on Tuesday, November 23, in order to find out the world situation and the simulation winner. This was the first student run simulation. The Winter Formal is to be held on Saturday, January 29, this year. This date is unusually late, as compared to previous years. The reason for this postponement is because of the school's full activity calendar. Basketball games occupy many of the weekends. |
Tri-S sponsored a movie, "The Bedford Incident," on December 2 in L-101. The movie began at 3:45. It was a "film of international tension and the possibility of an accidental third world war," said Bill Casperson '72, a member of Tri-S. The movie starred Sidney Poitier and Richard Widmark. Admission was $.50 with a taffy apple. Taffy apples were sold in several other places in the school for the regular prices. The Key Clubs of Maine West and Maine South will sponsor a Student Representative Day. It will be held on Wednesday, December 22, in the Maine West cafeteria from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It will be run like College Night, but there will be alumni representing the colleges instead of adults. |
