Clubs Celebrate Christmas

To help everyone into the Christmas spirit, many clubs and organizations are sponsoring special Christmas events.

The newly formed International Club is starting out well by selling Christmas cards and pencils. The cards come in boxes of 10 for $1 and the pencils, inscribed "American Field Service, One World" sell for $.10 each. The club was formed to promote international understanding within the school and its officers are Sue McDonald '72 president; and Estelle Mehegan '73, first vice-president. Hamid Rahim, our AFS student from Afghanistan, is second vice-president; and Pat McMinn '73 is the secretary.

On Thursday, December 2, several students and teachers from Tri-M attended the opera The Barber of Seville at the Lyric Opera House in Chicago. They left school at about 12:30 p.m. and returned later in the afternoon.

The Music Department is planning several activities for the Christmas holidays. Today, the Concert Choir will boost the holiday spirit for the commuters in the Madison Street terminal of the North Western Station in Chicago.
The music and singing you hear coming from the auditorium is the rehearsal of the students in the Christmas Concert. It will be held on Thurs-day, December 16, in the auditorium. Everyone involved has been working for a long while to make the show a success this year.

On Friday, December 17, the Choraliers members will sing carols for the Des Plaines Rotary Club. Later in the day the Concert Choir will assemble for the traditional caroling through the halls during the last hour of school before Christmas vacation.

Finally, to top off all of their Christmas activities, the Choraliers and Girls' Chorus are planning a festive program for their performance at the Hyatt House on Saturday, December 18, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Orchesis, the modern dance club, is going to perform to the music of Burt Bacharach's "And the People Were With Her" at half-time of the varsity basketball game against Hersey on December 18. The girls are planning costumes in a Christmas theme for the two-minute routine.
