Swimmers Take First Four Meets |
||||||||||
| The varsity swimming team started off their season this year with an impressive 4 and o record. Their first four meets were against Proviso West, Waukegan, Elgin, and Elk Grove. The sophomores started the season with a 2 and 2 record. Mr. Bob Dillingham, this year's sophomore coach, comments, "There were really too few men out on the sophomore level. What we have is top notch, but our losses were due to lack of depth." So far this season there have been several outstanding individual performances, as well as a commendable team effort. The strong points in this year's varsity team are the 200 medley - Larry Bierwirth '73, Steve Mammoser '72, Steve Dueball '72, and Rick Landuyt '73, which is reported to be the best in this area. |
Dave Dettman '73 tied the school record for the 200-yard free style. Larry Bierwirth broke the school record for the 100-yard backstroke in the Elk Grove meet with a time of 59.5. He remains unbeaten. Varsity Coach Kent Hownestein predicted the team's chances of going down state. "I feel confident that we will pull ahead of our last year's rating down state." Both coaches agree that the team increases in strength each year. This year it is a strong junior team, and because of it they feel we are one year away from showing one of the best teams in Maine's history. |
