Carol, Craig Win Annual Awards |
||||||||||
| Carol Gigante '72 and Craig Zaleski '72 have been selected to receive the annual SAR-DAR awards for good citizenship. DAR stands for Daughters of the American Revolution, and SAR for Sons of the American Revolution. The organizations define "good citizenship" as dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. The two winners were selected from four others by the faculty. The nominees, three girls and three boys, were made by the Senior Class. The others on the ballot were Kathy Jordan '72, Jodee Rowells '72, Bill Mitchell '72, and Ken Steinken '72. |
Every year, SAR honors a boy with an award at the end of the year in the honors assembly. However, DAR has more for the girl winner. In order to compete for possible scholarships, the girl fills out a two-part paper, one part of which consists of a quiz on U.S. history and government, the other part asks for personal information about the girl herself. Later on, the girls will attend a luncheon to learn who will be the state winners. The candidates could win a $25 savings bond or $100 savings bond. DAR is an organization of women composed of members who can trace their ancestors back to fighters on the American side of the revolution. SAR is the male counterpart. |
