Coach Geisler Gives Views |
||||||||||
| Coach Ervin Geisler, a former Maine West student, said in a 1964 interview, "Maine West coaches are the greatest and Dick Carlini is one of the best wrestling coaches in the state." He still feels the same way about Coach Carlini. Coach Geisler remarked that student participation and spirit have dropped off at wrestling matches but that wrestlers still have the same spirit. "The student potential for greatness is greater today, but the students must learn to strive more and achieve their goals through hard work," Mr. Gelsler said. When asked about the school itself, the coach answered, "The school has changed for the better in the many added advantages it has to offer today." |
Mr. Geisler said that not as many students come out for wrestling, but the competition is keener. A person, whether he be a student, athlete, or teacher should live with the attitude that one must come back from a hard-fought battle and strive for victory even alter defeat and that, in life, one is in a continuous battle to achieve his goals. Mr. Geisler's plans for the sophomore wrestling team are to make every young man who participates a winner, no matter what his record may show, and to develop a desire for victory and to learn how to cope with defeat. Coach Geisler graduated from Maine West after serving as one of its greatest athletes. He was also chosen as captain of the football team, where he earned one of his three varsity letters in 1963. |
