Diplomats Triumph Over |
||||||||||
| Not to many people's surprise the Harlem Diplomats beat the combination M-Club - faculty team on Friday, February 4. The game was close with a final score of 74-73; however, approximately 30 extra points were awarded to the Maine West team during half time and throughout the game. One of the Diplomats' stunts was their famous magic circle. During this trick all the lights were turned out and the Diplomats formed a circle. The only thing that was visible were the Diplomats' flourescent shoes, socks, and the ball. Black lights were put around their circle. The internationally famous Harlem Diplomats are rapidly becoming world renowned. They have recently played in Nassau, Mexico, Jamaica, Brazil and Venezuela. They have been titled the "funniest team ever." The price of the tickets if bought in advance were $1 for elementary students, $1.25 for high school students, and $1.50 |
for adults. If the tickets were bought at the door, they cost $1.25 for elementary students, $1.50 for high school students, and $1.75 for adults. Tickets could be purchased at the Maine West bookstore, from any M-Club member, or at the elementary and junior high schools. The game was sponsored by the M-Club, Maine West's varsity lettermen's club. At one point during the game one of the Diplomats followed a small girl out of the spectator gym, escorted her to the con- cession stand, and purchased a drink for her. Another player hung from the basketball ring while a Diplomat passed the ball to him, in order that he could drop it into the basket. The game was referred by two M-Club members. Tryouts were held for the M-Club team. The Harlem Diplomats were made up of many basketball comedians. |
