MW Mourns Mr. Boyer

Mr. Garth Boyer, former assistant chairman of English here at Maine West High School, died January 19. He will long be remembered for his service to the school. English Department chairman at Maine West, Mr. John Graef, described his association with Mr. Boyer in this way:

"Those of us who knew Garth Boyer remember not only the man who through unrelenting effort built the Maine West speech and drama program into one of the Midwest's finest, but also the man of warm smile, firm handshake, sound advice, pleasant conversation, and reflection of personal dignity.

"We will remember Garth Boyer with each opening curtain of a Maine West play, V-Show, and musical. We will
remember him as we listen to a WMTH broadcast and to a nervous but resolute contest orator.

"We will remember Garth with each glimpse of a Midwestern landscape, the country that bore and molded him for his life of dedicated service.

"We will miss Garth but we will often hear his voice. The echoes will not leave. Let us take comfort from Shakespeare: "All that lives must die, passing through nature to eternity."

A memorial fund in his honor has been set up by the school.
