Tankmen Finish at 10-4: Best Duel Record Ever

The tankmen ended their season last weekend by defeating Maine South. The score was 53-42. Larry Bierwirth '73 placed in the 100-yard free style and in the 100-yard backstroke. Steve Dueball '72 placed in the 100-yard breaststroke. Dave Dettman '72 came in first for the 200-yard free style and third in the 100-yard free style. Rick Landuyt '73 came in second for the 50-yard free style.

On Friday, January 14, the Warriors came up against Glenbrook North only to lose by a score of 60-35. The next day, January 15, the varsity team swam into sixth place out of 15 schools in the College Events Invitational at Hinsdale South.

At Glenbrook South on Friday, January 21, the Warrior tankmen lost again. This time the score was 53-41.

This year was the Warriors' best dual record percentage wise in the history of Maine West. They swam to 10 wins and four losses. Larry Bierwirth, the Warriors' top scorer, set the only pool record held by Maine West. Larry finished fifth in the state for the 100-yard backstroke, and he ranked fifteenth in the nation.
The 400-yard free style relay team placed eighth in the state and twentieth in the nation. They are Gregg Lambrechts '73, Rick Landuyt '73, Larry Bierwirth '73, and Dave Dettman '72.

On Sunday, February 20, from 9 am. to 7 p.m., there will be a swimming marathon in the pool. The boys' swim team, Aquiana, the girls' swim team, Des Plaines Guard, Warrior timers, and the Des Plaines Park District team will be swimming to raise money to buy a kyroscope (a timing and judging device) for the school. The coaches will also be swimming.

The freshmen came in sixth out of nine schools in the conference. George Erickson '75 came in third for the 50-yard backstroke. Kevin Stoltz '75 came in fifth for the 50-yard butterfly.

The Maine West swim team would like to give special thanks to the timers for the outstanding job they've done this year.
