| Mary Anne Makuch '72 has been named the 1972 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow for Maine West announced Mrs. Lucille Stiles, Home Economics Department chairman. Mary Anne took the test on December 7 and won on the basis of her score on a written knowledge and aptitude test on homemaking given to senior girls. General Mills, the sponsor of the Betty Crocker Search for the All American Homemaker of Tomorrow, presented Mary Anne with a specially designed silver award charm. Mary Anne's achievements have made her eligible for both state and national scholarships. Based on the original exam, a Homemaker of Tomorrow and runner up from each of the 50 states will be named. |
Each state Homemaker of Tomorrow not only receives a $1,500 scholarship, but also gets an all expense-paid tour of the Eastern United States for herself and a school adviser. The state winners will compete against each other for one of four national scholarships. Also, a complete set of Encyclopedia Britannica will be awarded to the school. In each state girls ranking second are awarded a scholarship of $500. Along with three national runners-up picked from the state winners, the 1972 Betty Crocker All American Homemaker of Tomorrow will be announced at an award dinner in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. A reception is planned for the Homemaker of Tomorrow in the spring, along with the United States senators and members of the House of Representatives from their district. |
