Editor- Recognizes Council's Success

Many students here at Maine West think that all extracurricular events fall magically from the sky. Few people stop to think what group or club is sponsoring the event, let alone all of the effort that went into its production. For there is a lot of hard work that goes into any entertainment. Tickets, publicity, maybe refreshments, and the entertainment itself are just a few of the major concerns.

The Student Council is often times the coordinator of school activities. The obvious examples come first Homecoming and V-Show. The majority of students realize that Council is behind these two events financially as well as in other ways. But the Council does provide other services for the student body.

Some recent ones are the Pancake Breakfast, whose $200 profit went to the Des Flames Day Care Center; the School Improvement Seminar, which was a conscious effort to channel the student
thought to the Executive Board of Student Council; and the smoking survey, which was another reflection of student opinion and might later be used as a basis for discussing the possibility of having a smoking lounge.

Student Council is now looking toward the future. The school improvement fund, in the name of Student Council, is contributing approximately $1,500 for equipment needed in the spectator gym for the Olympic gymnastics tryouts which are being held at Maine West this summer.

Plans for a student lounge in R-209 are being discussed. The lounge would be designed by students and restricted for senior use only. A fourth quarter trial period is probable. Student Council is working.
