|||||||||
| On Feburary 17 the Maine Wests Gymnastics team traveled to Niles West for the Central Suburban Conference meet. The Warriors could only place seventh in the meet, finishing ahead of Maine North and Deerfield. The Warriors' chances were hurt badly in the conference because nobody on the team could place on the high-bar, parallel bars, and the rings events. The Warriors best event was the side horse where Robin Ruedinger '72 took third place honors with a 7.10 average and gave the Warriors eight of their 27 points in the meet. Bill Lump '73 placed eighth to give the Warriors three more points. Overall, in the side horse event Maine took second behind Glenbrook South which won the conference meet. |
In the free exercise event Steve Schwab '72 got all of Maine West's 6 points by finishing fifth in a field of 34. Schwab's average was a fine 7.70. In the all-around event where one athlete participates in all the events for the meet, Steve Holmbeck '72 represented the Warriors. Holmbeck scored an overall total of 2,430 points to place sixth in conference and give the Warriors five more points. The only other event in which the Warriors placed, was the trampoline. Schwab a g a i n placed, this time finishing sixth with a 7.15 average to give West five more points in conference. The Warriors ended their sea-son on a bad note, but never- the less took fifth in conference, ending up in a tie with Niles West. |
