Two Junior Girls To Lead 'Mame'

"Let yourself go; be uninhibited" is what Mr. Ronald Mills tells this year's musical cast. Mame is a hard play to portray realistically. It is based on the true story written by Patrick Dennis.

Diane Reed '73 and Ginger Reinhart '73 will be trading off in the lead part of Mame. It is the first time either one of them has received a lead part as big as this.

Both girls are quite thrilled by the challenge of this role. They agree it is rough work but is also a lot of fun. Mame is a very sophisticated women who believes "Life is a banquet and most poor devils are starving to death."

There is a lot of singing, a lot of big productions, and a lot of work to be done in the remaining two weeks before the play goes on stage.

Diane hopes that "The students will take the play more seriously because there is a lot of time and money involved in it." She feels she has an opportunity to perform to the best of her ability and that the entire cast in the several productions will be very impressive.

Ginger is confident that the musical will sell out. It is a play which she feels has enough enthusiasm to interest everyone.
There is a tremendous amount of costumes for the play. Mame alone has 14 stunning costumes. The set will be a very realistic one centered around New York's Beacman Place.

Tom Parker '72, who portrays Beauregard, stated, "The huge productions, the beautiful scenery, and the fantastic costumes will make Mame tremendous." He marries Mame - yet on their honeymoon falls off the Matterhorn. Tom feels the girls' parts are the most demanding. "It's hard and it takes a lot of work, but the finished product will be worth it."

Norbert Bartosiak plays the part of Patrick Dennis. The story centers around this character. Norbert said of his part, "It is hard to be natural as a 10-year-old especially during scenes where I am on stage yet have no lines. How can you look natural when you are doing nothing?"

Maine has enough variety that everyone should find something to interest them in seeing the performance. There will be homeroom previews prior to the actual production.
