Broadway Musical Soon To
Light Up MW Stage

Less than three weeks are left until March 14, 15, 16, and 17, when the Maine West production of The King and I will stage its performance.

"The musical is coming along very well," Mr. Donald Lord, choral director of the play explained. "The cast is shaping up and sets and costumes are showing up more at rehearsals."

Linda Costagli '73, one of the student directors, is pleased with the progress. "I'm very optimistic this year," she told us. "This musical requires a lot more acting than last year's, and the cast is really working hard from the leads to the priests.''

Bob Konopaz '73, second student director said that the roles are difficult because the "culture is different and it is hard to obtain character."

The leads were then asked what they found the hardest and most challenging about their roles. Tom Sandri '74, one of the kings, replied, "Trying to laugh."

Steve McMahon '74 replied, "trying to retain a priestly attitude along with relaying the magnetism called for between myself and Tuptim." Dale Leigh '73 answered, "portraying hope and despair at the same time." Both are playing the part of Lun Tah, the lover of Tuptim.

Diana Reed '73 and Chris Johanson '73, who are sharing the role of Anna, both agree that getting into character and forgetting everything that happened during the day is the most difficult.

It is evident the cast is working hard to make The King and I a good performance. Tickets are now on sale for $1.50, $2, and $2.50.
