Many memories of Maine West will remain with its students for years to come and Mr. Tom Fallbacher will be one many will remember.
The security officer whom many students affectionately referred to as "Captain Crunch" died, at the age of 72 of a massive stroke caused by a broken blood vessel, February 13.
Mr. Fallbacher provided excellent service to Maine West for six years. "He treated students with dignity and respect. Students in return gave the same respect to him," acknowledged Mr. James Coburn, assistant principal.
Not only did he work eight hours during the school day; but he also came back for football, basketball, summer school, and Park District activities. In short, Mr. Tom Fallbacher devoted himself to his work.
Maine West will miss the security officer who many only knew as "Captain Crunch."
