Do you think the school and city should provide more weekend activities? What kind would you suggest?
Debbie Sibert '74 ‑ The school shouldn't; they have too many as it is. The city won't. I would like to suggest a drop‑in center.
Phil Vacarello '73 ‑ I think that the school and city should build a roller skating rink on the northeast corner of Lee and Oakton Streets. (This patch of land is seldom used for anything constructive.) There aren't any roller skating rinks in this area, and I'm sure whoever builds it will make a lot of money. This rink will increase the number of activities available in this city and may help shake the city's nickname of "Dead Plaines."
Ellen Vana '75 No, even if the school got more activities, no one would go anyway.

Becky Guenther '74 ‑ I think there should definitely be somewhere for kids to go. Drop‑in was too segregated. We need something to bring everyone together, like roller skating! Some place for non‑professional concerts would be good too.
Steve Kisslinger '74 ‑ I'm definitely in favor of more school district and city funded extra‑curricular activities for young people. In a day and age where our city fathers and school officials are claiming what a restless group of teenagers we are, they should provide some form of activities for this age group. Place for People was a good example, and efforts should be taken to fund this program and others of the same type to expand its field of interest and services.
Karen Gutzmer '74 ‑ Yes, the city should sponsor more city improvement projects.
Cathy McNally '74 ‑ Yes, 16‑year‑old bars.
