Gymnasts End Season;
Girls Outshine Guys

The Central Suburban Championship on February 22 brought Niles North to a victory and left Maine West finishing ninth out of 12.

In order to qualify for the championship a team had to be one of the top six of the 12 teams or for an individual event by being one of the top five performers in the event. Bill Lumpp '73 was the only Maine West gymnast to qualify individually. Lumpp qualified third and finished second in conference on the side horse.

The other schools who competed in the Central Suburban Championship were Niles North, Niles East, Niles West, Glenbrook South, New Trier West, Maine South, and Glenbrook North.

In districts March 3 at Elk Grove, Phil DaPrato '73 finished fifth on parallel bars and Bill Lumpp '73 finished seventh and qualified at large. Both DaPrato and Lumpp will go to sectionals tomorrow at Niles West.

In girls' gymnastics the girls finished with nine wins and three losses which left them in third place in the division. In league competition the following girls made finals: Nancy Franklin '74 and Kim Thompson '74, on the uneven bars; Dottie Gallucci '76 and Ellen Vana '75, in free exercise: Kim Thompson, on balance beam.

Now that the competitive season has finished, all the girls of the Gymnastics Club are working on the Pot Luck demonstration which will be held later this spring.

The half‑time show performed by Girls' Gymnastics Club demonstrated work on the uneven bars at the varsity basketball game March 4.
