Closing out their season with wins over Niles North and Deerfield and a loss to Niles West, the Warriors entered this week's state regionals with a conference record of 8‑5.
On February 16 at Niles North, the Warriors swept their two‑game, season series with the Vikings by defeating them, 59‑42. Much of Maine West's scoring that night was provided by Joe Thimm '73, who scored 35 points, and Chris Bouchee '73, who tallied 18 points.
Coming home on February 23, the Warriors split their season series with Deerfield by defeating them, 61‑43. One week later the Warriors closed out their regular season with a home loss at the hands of Niles West, 70‑48.
First quarter scoring began when Doug Myers '74 scored on a short jumper from the lane to give the Warriors the early lead. Both teams then traded baskets until, with Maine West on top 6‑4, the Indians scored six straight points to take a 10‑6 lead.

Joe Thimm then went on a scoring spree for the Warriors, coming up with seven straight points to give the Warriors a 13‑10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Niles West then took over, however, scoring the first of 11 points of the second quarter to take a 21‑13 lead.
Later in the same quarter, another short jumper by Myers brought the Warriors to within four points of Niles West, 25‑21; but then the Indians went on another spree, scoring eight straight points to take a 33‑21 halftime lead.
Thimm gave hopes for a comeback early in the third quarter, scoring on a short jumper to cut the Niles West lead to 10, 33‑23. Those hopes were quickly dashed, however, as Niles West, scoring in spurts, coasted to the 22‑point victory.
The Indians, with very balanced scoring, were led by Dan Welter, who had 13 points. Doug Myers led the Warrior scorers with 15 points, while Joe Thimm had 13 points in the losing cause.
