GRA HAPPENINGS
The Maine West Girls Recreation Association sponsored their annual Junior High School Playday on Saturday, March 17, from 10 am, until noon in the C‑wing gymnasium. All eighth grade girls in the area were welcome to attend. Demonstrations in fencing, self‑defense, and gymnastics were presented by the GRA members, and refreshments were served.
"PERFECT HARMONY"
The Maine West Aquiana Club will present its annual water show entitled "Perfect Harmony" on April 5‑7. Performances will begin at 8 p.m. Group rates are being offered for the performance on April 5. Further information may be obtained by contacting Jill Falstad, show chairman, or Sue Jenik, club president.
SAFE WOMAN DRIVER?
Senior Kathleen Ingrish has been selected as one of the finalists in a contest sponsored by the Illinois Editors' Traffic Safety Seminar. She is now eligible to compete for a $500 scholarship and a U.S. savings bond. The winners of the contest will be announced on May 11. The subject was "If I had the power (a) this is the one thing I would do to reduce traffic accidents, and (b) here are my reasons.
YOUR PART FOR POLLUTION
Students can obtain a free auto exhaust emission test to help the fight against air pollution at KomCo Tune‑Up Center Inc., 1575 Oakton, Des Plaines. The exhaust test takes only a few minutes to administer by employing an infra‑red exhaust gas tester which shows whether a car conforms to the accepted emission specifications and also shows the overall operating efficiency of the vehicle. More information may be obtained by calling KomCo at 296‑5519 from 8 am. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
GYMNASTIC FEATS
Maine West's gymnastics team had two members who qualified to compete in the sectional meet on March 10 at Niles West High School, but only one actually competed. Phil DaPrato '73 who originally qualified for the meet was not able to perform due to an injury that was incurred following the district meet. The only gymnast who did compete was Bill Lumpp '73 who scored 6.3 on the side horse.
COME, JOIN THE FUN
Social Science Colloquium will sponsor a volleyball game between the Social Science Department and the Colloquium on Wednesday, April 11, in C‑wing gym. Spectators are invited.
GOT A YEARBOOK?
Mr. George Walker, Legend adviser, still has a few extra 1973 yearbooks to sell on a first‑come, first‑served basis. See him with your $5.50 in R‑210 during eighth or ninth periods or before school. Second payments of $2.50 for number one receipt holders, those who paid $3 last fall, will be made April 9‑13.
