Did you know that four Maine West seniors have been named Outstanding Teenagers of America for 1973? Named by Mr. Herman Rider, principal, they include Douglas Meister, a member of the National Honor Society and the Historical Society; Virginia Reinhart, a member of the Maine West twirling corps and active in Maine West musical activities; Curt Henrich, a member of the National Honor Society and the Historical Society; and Sandy Hanus, a member of the National Honor Society and the Thespian Society.
Chosen because of their service to Maine West, the four are now qualified for regional, state, and national honors.
Did you know that Maine West Distributive Education students placed high at the Distributive Education contest at Woodfield? Among winning individuals were seniors Joan Jameson, first in public speaking; Sandy Kosinki, second in job interview; Stevi Lamb, third in job interview; and Karen Collins, third in display. Honorable mentions included seniors Mary Curtin and Jeff Lehmann, who tied for fourth place in advertising.

Speaking of Distributive Education, did you know that six Distributive Education students attended the State Distributive Education Leadership Conference in Springfield?
Members attending were John Scherer '74, Jeff Lehmann '73, Sandy Kosinski '73, Karin Soderlund '73, Diane McKenna '74, and Gail Blaski '74.
Did you know that six Maine West students participated in the district speech competition at Maine South? The students included Patty Interrante '73 and Steve Frey '75, who acted as a duet; and David Frands '74, who presented a humorous interpretation and a poetry reading.
Among students qualifying for sectional competition were Su Sciez '73 with a prose reading, Joni Huff '73 with special occasion speaking, and Dale Leigh '73 with an original comedy.
Juniors Mike Lombardo and Dan Wolf are the students responsible for the silk screen printed Project BIG buttons. The two graphic communications students used a photographic method of producing the buttons, which even experts in the field consider a difficult project for beginning students.
