Constitutional Finalists Chosen in
Legion Contest

Once again the American Legion has sponsored its annual American Legion Constitution Contest in which all students were eligible. The two part contest was held on March 22 and April 12, respectively. All students who entered were expected to have an understanding of not only the Constitution itself but what their opinions were in light of application of the Constitution to current political and social matters.

The test was divided into two parts ‑ a written examination for all contestants followed by an oral examination by American Legionaires for finalists. Twelve finalists were named, and they included: Kathy Dagenhardt '73, Carol Jensen '73, Steve Kisslinger '74, Ronald Lowenherz '73, Lawrence Northon '73, Lester Nelson '74, Steve Nyberg '73, Suzanne Sciez '73, and Mark Thompson '73.

The winners were Eric Swanson '74 in first place for a $200 scholarship, Bill Wyatt '74 in second place for a $100 scholarship, and Jeff Dennis '75 in third place. Eric Swanson commented, "I am honored and privileged to accept the award from so fine an organization."

Bill Wyatt stated, "I am very pleased to accept this honor."

The questions asked on the written examination were basically all Constitutional knowledge while the oral examination was composed of questions in which the contestants could express their opinions on issues of the day, based on the Constitution. The awards will be presented to the winners at the History Awards Assembly in June.
