On Friday, April 13, in the spectator gym, the new brotherhood members were initiated into Brotherhood Society. Mr. Charles King, who entertained troops in Vietnam, was on hand to provide the entertainment.
The brotherhood award is an honorary award given each year to three girls and three boys who best exemplify the spirit of brotherhood. Ballots were sent to each homeroom, and the students then chose three girls and three boys from their class who best show friendliness, kindness, and understanding toward others.
Brotherhood Society sponsors activities throughout the year. They usually hold two assemblies each year: a concert in the fall and an assembly for the initiation of new members in the spring. The fall concert scheduled this year, however, was cancelled due to a power failure. Members of Brotherhood show new students around Maine West, so that they will feel comfortable in new surroundings. This year they sponsored the Spaghetti Dinner during Super Saturday. Like most clubs, Brotherhood Society has officers: Mark Drysch '73, president; Cindy Figge '73, vice-president; Lynn Heiden '73, secretary‑treasurer. Mr. Bruce Erickson is the sponsor of Brotherhood Society.

During the past few years, Brotherhood Society has seemed to lose the interest of some of the students at Maine West. Mr. Erickson feels that the students elect the members to Brotherhood Society and that they are the ones who make the club. He also felt that in order for Brotherhood Society to be worth while, the students should elect those students who will make the club worthwhile.
The newly elected members to Brotherhood Society from the Freshman Class are Carol Kale, Jill Bober, Rena Turley, Bernie Corr, Scott Unger, Andy Wild, and Dave Beedy. Kerry Piest, Gail Gawel, Ellen Vana, Mike Brady, Bill Makuch, and Terry Quinn represented the Sophomore Class. The new members for the Junior Class are Kris Beedy, Gail Kaechele, Karen McGavin, Lance Carlile, Steve Jacobsen, and Greg Klebe. Cindie Brodie, Dawn Roel, Sue Carr, Ceasare Bratta, Pat Ross, Dave Wenz, and Bob Konopacz were elected from the Senior Class.
