The Maine West Art Department will present "A Festival of Art" on Thursday, May 3, in the spectator gymnasium. The festival is open to everyone, with students invited to come during the day. All English classes will be allowed to attend.
The festival will also be open in the evening for public viewing from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is free of charge to all attending.
The various displays will exhibit over 700 art pieces in the areas of painting, sculpture, graphics, ceramics, drawing, photography, and crafts.
The Industrial Education Department will also be involved in the festival with exhibits in the areas of electricity, architectural drawing, mechanical drawing, woods, metals, and plan and design.

The festival originated approximately seven years age and was held in conjunction with the Art, Drama, and Music Departments. For the last three years the festival has been held with previously mentioned departments in addition to the Industrial Education Department, which will be represented on a much larger scale this year.
The attendance last year numbered more than 4,000 people, and the majority of feelings expressed toward the "art fest" were positive.
The emphasis each year varies in the exhibits, so timely thinking experienced by the students is shown. The Art Department encourages comments and will provide index cards for that purpose.
The festival is shown with the philosophy of the Art Department as a foundation. The department feels that art is a part of man's life experience and holds the festival in hopes that people will become more aware of and involved in "The Festival of Art" around them.
