Roberta Flack's top seller, 'Killing Me Softly," remained number one on the hit charts: for quite a few weeks and currently holds the fourth spot on Billboard Magazine's "Hot 100." The text of the song was originally conceived by another artist named Lori Lieberman and is featured on the album bearing her name.
The song centers on an experience at a live Don McLean concert. McLean had such an impact on Lori that she was inspired to put her emotions into words.
After describing her experience to composers Norman Gimbel and Charles Fox, "Killing Me Softly" became a finished product, but not a hit seller until Roberta Flack recorded her version. Here are the lyrics:

I heard he sang a good song
I heard he had a style
And so I came to see him
To listen for a while
And there he was this young boy
A stranger to my eyes
(Chorus)
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
I felt all flushed with fever
Embarrassed by the crowd
I felt he found my letters
And read each one out loud
I prayed that he would finish
But he just kept right on
(Chorus)
He sang as if he knew me
In all my dark despair
And then he looked right through me
As if I wasn't there
Be he was there this stranger
Singing clear and strong
(Chorus)
