The Maine West faculty and administration believe in the optimum development of every student, in secondary education of superior quality, in the maintenance of high standards for all courses, in the development of an educational climate which provides stimulating experiences for all high school youth, and in the necessity for preparing all students to take their places as discerning citizens in a complex world. How well Maine West serves its students depends upon the loyalty and backing of the parents.
I believe that student activities in our school tend to develop leadership, self‑confidence; a friendly teacher‑pupil relationship, and school and community loyalty .
...Nineteen years ago, when I came to Maine as a science teacher and coach, I sensed immediately that there was something special about the school. There was an air of friendliness and a feeling that students and faculty members respected each other and were able to work together in all of their endeavors. The "Spirit of Maine West" statue serves as a reminder to students and faculty members that we have something precious in our school. We can guard our fine traditions if we live by and foster "The Maine Way."

Possibly the saying of Abraham Lincoln might be a good motto for all of us to follow:
I'll do the very best I know how
The very best I can;
And I mean to keep doing so until the end.
If the end brings me out all right,
What is said against me
Won't amount to anything.
If the end brings me out wrong,
Ten angels swearing I was right
Would make no difference.
