VOL. XIV, NO. 13
MAY 11, 1973

Each year when Maine West opened, Mr. Rider was always here to welcome everyone to Maine West.

Also, every year in his welcoming speech he told everyone that the door to his office was always open to anyone who wanted to come in and talk to him. He meant it.

In my four years here, I have walked unannounced into his office so many times just to talk to him or ask advice or help and never once did he refuse.

He was always there, wanting to do whatever he could for Maine West. Mr. Rider wanted to meet the students. He wanted to talk with them or help them if he could.

Many times when the cheerleaders needed transportation to away games, he drove them, always cheerfully.

Maine West was Mr. Rider and Mr. Rider was Maine West. He gave so much. He wanted to give.

As far as I am concerned, no man will be missed as much as Herman Rider. I am very grateful that I have been able to give this testimonial to such a great man.

I am only sorry that this is being given to him at this time and not while he was living; but I am very sure that he knows how we all feel.

I have not only lost a very fine leader but a very fine friend. We all have.
