The girls' track team met Maine South May 10 and lost 74‑24. In that loss the two bright spots at the meet were Marleen Mundt '76, who won the high jump, and Laura Geiger '73, who won the long jump at 16.5.
At Niles East Laura Geiger was second in the long with the highest jump in her career, 17.1. She was beaten by one inch.
Peggy Burchard '76 won the 80‑yard hurdles. Laura Geiger won 220‑yard dash.
After a valiant effort on Saturday, May 12, at Elk Grove High School no one qualified for the state tournament. Peggy Burchard placed highest, winning third in 80‑yard hurdles.
In girls' softball the Maine West varsity beat Deerfield 20 to 4 on May 12. Then on Saturday afternoon they went on to win against Niles East. This makes their season total three wins and two losses. They are third in their division.
The girls who play on varsity are Kathy Zyrkowski '73, Chris Trosterud '75, Robin Wright '75, Bonnie Serone '73, Gina Interrante '76, Kathy Pelinski '76, Maureen Brock '75, Kathy Shuttleworth '75, Pat Berner '73, Nina Kleinhans '75, Karen Neetz '74, and Kim Tuttle '74.

The junior varsity softball has been very unfortunate, losing every game except one by one point.
The following are the J.V. players: Barb Bell '76, Melanie Hajost '75, Laurie Meissner '76, Jane Krauser '76, Linda Boryca '76, Mary Beth Suda '76, Debbie Wilson '76, Barb Breider '76, Evelyn Johnson '76, Jennie Bruns '76, Jan Veit '76, Liz Makuch '76, and Margie Hirsch '76.
Archery season has just started, and the archers have already beat Niles East 7.0. Last year the archery team was undefeated, and this year they expect to be also.
Next year archery will be changed to the fall, because not enough schools in this district shot in the spring.
The top seven shooters are Mary Pat Klein '75, Debbie Mayday '74, Barb Breider '76, Sandy Sadler '75, Sue Meltcher '76, Martha Clement '74, Kathy Dueball '75, Ginger Holm '76, Mary Van Noy '74, Ora Royal '74, Pam Nehring '73, and Sue Chase '76.
On May 30 Maine West is hosting a tri-meet at Glenbrook North. Trophies will be awarded to the top five archers.
