College Bound?

The following is a news bulletin from Indiana State University concerning the chances to visit prospective colleges. It may be of some interest to the college bound students:

You will have to seek out the colleges and universities that offer the program of study that you want to pursue. Then, you will have to compare admission requirements, tuition and room-and‑board costs, housing and academic facilities, the qualities of programs and faculty, and perhaps, student financial aids and scholarships.

"A visit to several campuses is the best way for the prospective student to make a final choice," according to Dr. Jerry L. Hile, director of University High School relations at Indiana State University.

"There are so many variables involved that it's difficult for the prospective student to make a final choice by reading printed materials and talking with others," Dr. Hile explained. "That is why a personal visit to a campus is so important for the student to discover educational and social offerings as well as to see the campus and the buildings and to meet some of the faculty and students."

All colleges and universities welcome campus visits, Dr. Hile said, and some provide housing accommodations for overnight or for the weekend. Also, many schools have scheduled visitation days under a variety of names, but with the same general purpose ‑ to have the prospective student become personally acquainted with the college and its programs.
