On September 30 our cross country team opposed 22 other teams at the Oak Park Invitational. The varsity team ran into fourth place, and our junior varsity team came home with a first place trophy.
The sophomores came in twelfth place and the freshmen came in third.
Those placing on the varsity level were Chip Barbour '73, who came in fifth, and Greg Klebe '74, who came in twenty-first place
On the junior varsity level, Scott Sedlack '73 came in second; Chuck LaSota '74 came in fifth; Rich Schmit '74 came in eleventh; Fred Schultz '73 came in twelfth; John Duntemann '74, came in thirteenth; Glen Oland '74 came in fourteenth; and Joe Andrew '74 came in twenty-third.
Placing on the sophomore level were Greg Koeller, fourth place; Dave Schmit, thirteenth place; and Howie Blietz, nineteenth place.
On September 23, the Harriers traveled to Waukegan and the varsity team took third place. The sophomores took ninth place and the freshmen took second place. There was no junior varsity level in this invitational.
Chip Barbour came home with second place, and Greg Klebe took tenth place at the Waukegan Invitational.
Greg Koeller placed second; Howie Blietz placed fourth; and Dave Schmit placed twentieth in the freshmen level.

Maine West hosted Glenbrook South and Maine East on September 28. The varsity team shut out Glenbrook South 15‑50, which is a perfect score. The sophomores won 16‑47 but our freshmen lost 48‑50.
Against Maine East, which is ranked second in the state, our varsity lost 19‑36. The sophomores lost 17‑43, and the freshmen were shut out 15‑50.
Tomorrow the Harriers travel to Ridgewood Invitational, which will begin at 10 am. Next Tuesday they will be competing against Fremd and Conant at 4:30 p.m.
On October 17, Maine West Warriors will be hosting Niles North, Taft, and Lane Tech at 4: 30 p.m.
When Greg Klebe was asked how he felt the team was doing this year, he said, "This year the team got off to a slow start, but we're on the long road back."
Kevin Skahan '74 stated that "This year's team has been hampered by various injuries but depth and potential have held the team together. Led by Chip Barbour, the team has a great chance of going down state."
